Ethnic Diversity vs. Social Harmony 

rainbow31An article in today’s Guardian introduces Robert Putnam’s forthcoming book on the effects of ethnic diversity on “social harmony’ in the UK. Tom Clarke who has co-written the book with Putnam and writes the article, consults sociologist Ed Fieldhouse on his study of diversity in Manchester. Admitting that “adverse reaction to diversity” in Britain is moderate, Fieldhouse concludes that increased diversity leads to greater “hunkering down” of both white and non-white populations: (More …)
